61. And recall when you said, O Musa! [110] We can never be satisfied [111] with one kind of food. So call upon your Lord to bring forth for us some of the varied produce of the earth, such as its vegetables, cucumbers, wheat, lentils, and onions. He (Musa) said: "Would you exchange what is better for what is less? Go back to Egypt any town, and there you will find all that you asked for." And they were covered with humiliation and poverty and incurred the Wrath of Allah because they repeatedly disbelieved in the Signs of Allah and killed the Prophets unjustly. [114] This was because they were disobedient and habitually exceeding the limits.

214. Are you under the impression that you will enter Paradise without a trial that has not come [499] to you, like that which came to those who passed before you? They were afflicted by poverty and hardships and were shaken until even the Messenger and those who believed with him said: "When will come the help of Allah?" [500] Indeed, the help of Allah is near [501].

This has He enjoined upon you so that you may understand."

And those who had their homes in this city (Madina) and accepted faith (28) before (the arrival of the Holy Prophet there), love (29) those who come to them for refuge, and do not mind (30) a need of what they (refugees) are given, and prefer refugees to themselves, and even though poverty (31) may afflict them. And whoever is away from the miserliness of his own self, (they) are the successful (32) ones.
