25. And indeed, We sent Nuh to his people, saying, "I [56] am for you a clear warner [57]."

26. That you worship none [58] save Allah. Verily, I fear for you the torment of a painful day.

27. Then the chiefs of the unbelievers among his people said, "We see you as nothing but a man like us. And we see none following you but the lowliest among us, who act without thinking [60], and we do not see any merit in you over us; rather, we believe you are liars [61]."

28. He said, "O my people! Consider this: if I am on a clear proof from my Lord, and He has granted me a mercy from Himself [62], and it is made obscure to you, should we force it upon you while you are averse to it [63]?"

29. And O my people, I do not ask you for any wealth in return. My reward is only with Allah. I am not going to drive away those who have believed; they will surely meet their Lord. But I see you are a people who are ignorant [66].

30. And O my people, who will help me against Allah if I drive them away [67]? Will you not take heed?

31. And I do not say to you, "I have the treasures of Allah [68], nor do I know the unseen [69], nor do I say, 'I am an angel [70].' Nor do I say of those whom your eyes disdain, 'Allah will not grant them any good [71].' Allah knows best what is within their souls. If I were to do so, then indeed, I would be among the wrongdoers [72].

32. They said, "O Nuh, you have disputed [73] with us and prolonged your dispute. So bring us that which you promise us, if you are among the truthful."

33. He said, "Allah alone will bring it to you if He wills [74], and you cannot escape Him."

34. And my advice will not benefit you if I desire to advise you, while Allah wills to lead you astray [75]. He is your Lord, and to Him you will be returned [76].
